Old photographs of Moscow have the opposite effect — they radiate warmth, causing nostalgia and other sentiments in the viewer. The views of familiar streets and alleys, on the one hand, create a feeling of a completely different, different from our completely forgotten life, and on the other - they are filled with a special atmosphere. Despite the age of more than a century, the old photos of the city are surprisingly "alive".
The most successful and large-scale capture of Moscow at the beginning of the last century was managed by the famous Russian public figure, collector and photographer Emilia Vladimirovich Gauthier-Dufaye. Today we would like to show you some of his wonderful works.
The collection created by Gauthier-Dufaye is kept in the fund of the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture. In total, there are about 500 pictures of old Moscow in the collection. Some experts claim that the master took about 700 pictures, so it is quite possible that new discoveries are still waiting for us.
