1. "The Perfect Storm" (2000)
In 1991, on Halloween day, a powerful hurricane swept over the Atlantic Ocean, which suddenly caught the small fishing vessel "Andrea Gale" in the middle of the sea. During the filming of this picture, all the actors not only suffered massively from seasickness but were also exposed to real danger. Co-star Mark Wahlberg almost drowned while filming one of the scenes where he had to perform a difficult stunt.
2. "Cruiser" (2016)
On the night of July 30, 1945, the cruiser Indianapolis, which was carrying uranium to make a nuclear bomb, was attacked by a Japanese submarine in the waters of the Philippine Sea. The ship quickly sank, and its 900 crew members faced the reality that they had to spend 4 days on rafts and wrecks, trying to survive in the absence of water and food, and being surrounded by hungry sharks. Unfortunately, for obvious reasons, not everyone managed to overcome this test.
3. "Alive" (1993)
The plane carrying the Uruguayan rugby team crashed in the Andes. The rescuers did not even have approximate coordinates of the location of the guys, and because of the heavy snow enveloping the mountains and the wreckage of the plane, it was extremely difficult to notice people from above. As a result, the victims of the disaster, the young guys were left in harsh conditions to their fate, often making morally difficult decisions on which their lives depended. Real people from the same team acted as consultants on the set of the picture.
4. "Titanic" (1997)
We have all heard more than once about the events that took place in April 1912. A huge liner en route from Britain to New York collided with an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean and as a result, the crash claimed the lives of more than 1,500 passengers. If we do not take into account the tragic fate of the main characters in love, then the rest of the film was shot very reliably. The director of the picture has repeatedly resorted to real documentary materials and communicated with the survivors of this disaster in order to reproduce the tragedy in great detail.
5. Apollo 13 (1995)
This motion picture describes the events that happened to the crew of the third expedition to the moon in 1970. At first, nothing foreshadowed trouble, until an oxygen cylinder exploded on board the ship, which completely ruled out the possibility of a satellite landing on Earth. It is interesting that the real participant in those events, James Lovell, also starred in this film. It is he who at the end of the picture shakes hands with Tom Hanks, who played him in the film.
6. "K-19" (2002)
The events of the film tell about the fate of people who were on a nuclear submarine at the moment when the accident occurred there. The whole difficulty of the situation lay precisely in the fact that an atmosphere of strict secrecy reigned on board. Therefore, the ship's commander was forced to make a difficult choice: save the crew or kill people, while fulfilling his official duty to the end.
7. "Impossible" (2012)
The story of this disaster film tells of a Spanish family with three children who went on vacation to Thailand on the eve of the Christmas holidays. Right after the main holiday was celebrated, the coast of Thailand is covered by a restless element caused by an earthquake that dealt a devastating blow, washing away all residential buildings, cars, and people in its path ...
8. "And the Storm Came" (2016)
The film tells the story of the aftermath of the sinking of the oil tanker Pendleton, which happened in 1952 off the coast of New England. The ship, caught in a snowstorm, presented the rescuers with the difficult task of rescuing all the crew members from the damaged tanker.
9. "Twin Towers" (2006)
This film shows the real fate of the police officers who took the shift on September 11, 2001, and risked their own lives in the name of saving the victims of the terrorist attack. Two police officers, Jone and Wille, were among the first to go to rescue people from the rubble of skyscrapers and remained blocked under the ruins of the twin towers.
10. "33" (2014)
This tragedy occurred in 2010 in the state of San Jose in Chile, when 33 miners were trapped deep in the bowels of the earth. For more than 2 months, these people fought for their lives, while rescue teams tried to get to them and save them. 4 years after the completion of the rescue operation, the film "33" was shot with Antonio Banderas in the title role.
11. "Out of Control" (2010)
The incident, which officially bears the name "Incident with CSX 8888" occurred in May 2001. Then the unmanned train, which was transporting the toxic waste, failed and became completely unmanageable. The collapse of this train could result in a risk to the health and lives of thousands of people and a large-scale environmental disaster. The task of stopping the train falls to an experienced driver and a young conductor. During this task, they will be required to join forces and prevent a large-scale accident from happening.
