10 non-banal, but very scary horror films of the last decade

Fans of horror films can recite by heart all the techniques used in horror-the sudden appearance of monsters, forcing sounds, reflections of strangers or otherworldly creatures in mirrors. Well, where is it without a family that bought a creepy house on the outskirts and finds out that it is filled with the ghosts of the former owners. All these cliches are already pretty fed up with fans of the genre.

But we are in a hurry to reassure you! Recently, directors have begun to create more exciting films with unexpected plots and interesting concepts. We want to share a selection of a dozen such paintings.

You're finished! (2013)

It all starts very banal: mysterious masked villains make their way into the house, who begin to brutally kill everyone who gets in their way, and then leave messages from their blood on the walls. But with each new scene, the situation changes dramatically. Already at the end, the viewer will begin to be afraid not of maniacs, but of the main characters themselves. Don't you believe it? See for yourself by watching the movie " You're finished!", whose main character is especially frightening.

Bird Box (2018)

The film "Bird Box" is a post-apocalyptic horror based on the book of the same name by Josh Malerman. According to the plot, an unknown epidemic has seized the planet, which causes people to want to kill themselves in a variety of ways. The main character Malory is a pregnant artist in a divorce, forced to protect her children alone from the difficulties that fall on their way.

The most interesting and unusual thing about this film is that the only way for its characters to escape is to limit their vision. After all, if they look at creatures that can not be looked at, and they will have a desire to commit suicide.

This Netflix movie has caused the appearance of many memes and a whole wave of imitations that are dangerous to health. People ran across the road blindfolded and put themselves at unnecessary risk by acting out scenes from the film.

Away (2017)

The film "Away" will keep the audience in suspense until the very last minute. And all because, thanks to the twisted and non-banal plot, it is completely unclear who is worth being afraid of here, and who is not.

It is perfect for those who are tired of distorted faces "jumping out" from behind corners, but want something more atmospheric and filled with meaning.

Mom! (2017)

The film "Mama" with the participation of Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem is the perfect mechanism to drive the viewer crazy. At least, this is how the critics described this film. In their opinion, the tape is simply a must-see, even despite the far-fetched plot tricks and a large number of allegories present in it.

We fully agree with them, because in the course of the film, the viewer will have to ride on a real "attraction" of emotions with stops — "surprise", "shock", "sadness", "rage" and "complete misunderstanding".

It Haunts (2014)

The film is intriguing from the very first minutes, as it all starts with a scene of a frightened girl running away from an unknown creepy creature. Then the events unfold more steadily, but the tape will continue to keep the audience in suspense.

Its main difference from most other horror films is that evil (death) is shown here unhurried and persistent, and not jumping out from behind all corners, as it happens irritatingly often in horror films.

A Hut in the Forest (2012)

A group of students went along an unknown highway to a lonely and frightening hut in the forest to have a picnic there. Have they not watched horror movies before, in which everything begins exactly like this?

But in this picture, the characters are waiting for a lot of predictable and unpredictable events, but most importantly, the unexpected and shocking, of course, will happen at the very end.

A Quiet Place (2018)

"A quiet place" is the story of a very ordinary family from a distant American outback. But it seems so only at first glance. After all, these people are really not simple, and the world in which they live is completely filled with creepy monsters.

It should be noted that "A Quiet Place" is one of the few horror films in which so much attention is paid to sounds. Take a look and you will understand everything for yourself.

Reincarnation (2018)

After the death of her mother, strange things begin to happen in the family of Annie Graham, because of which the lives of her relatives are threatened. But when a woman tries to change something, new obstacles appear on her way, and each time frightening facts about her loved ones are revealed.

The film "Reincarnation" seems to be imbued with an oppressive atmosphere of sadness and hopelessness. It is not surprising that it was named one of the scariest films of 2018 and was awarded many prestigious awards.

Happy Death Day (2017)

Surely you all remember the famous "Groundhog Day", in which the main character had to live the same events over and over again? The film "Happy Death Day" is a kind of its analogue, but as you may have guessed, here the characters will fight with death. The frightening scenes here are heartily flavored with comic ones, so this horror can be safely called a black comedy.

Cloverfield, 10 (2016)

"Cloverfield, 10" is a chamber thriller for three people, which clearly demonstrates what paranoia is. The main character of the tape finds herself in a situation where it is not clear who to believe and who not, who is a friend and who is an enemy, and who of those present in the room is right in the end?

And the audience will receive answers to these questions at the very end of the film. Therefore, they will have to be patient and, perhaps, sedative, because "Cloverfield, 10" makes the heart beat faster.

These films are a perfect proof that severed limbs and creepy monsters are not the only thing that can instill an all-consuming fear in a person from watching. Sometimes it's not even necessary that it was a horror movie — we used to share a selection of heavy, realistic and not at all scary (in a sense) tapes that give goosebumps.
