1. Island (2005)
An interesting speculation about the development of sensor technology can be seen in this 2005 tape. In particular, one of the characters uses a touch screen table, and a couple of years later, Microsoft announced that it was going to release PixelSense, similar in concept and functionality to the device shown in the film. A lot of effort and money was spent on making it appear that the characters are using various touch devices (in reality, fictitious ones), but only 10 years have passed, and devices with touch screens are found at every step.
2. "Ultraviolet" (2006)
In this fantastic action movie, the heroine of Mila Jovovich demonstrates not only her hand-to-hand combat skills, but also the ability to change the color of her clothes and hair. Technologies for rapidly changing the color of clothing already exist. Del Sol manufactures materials that change color when exposed to sunlight. This transformation takes place thanks to special crystals developed by NASA. And in Budapest, Judith Karpaty presented an interactive fabric "Chromosonic", which changes color when exposed to sound waves.
3. "Terminator" (1984)
In the first Terminator movie, hunter planes are only shown in passing. Then the idea of robotic planes that brought fiery death looked like science fiction. Today, drones are everywhere. They play an important role in conflicts around the world.
4. "Back to the Future 2" (1989)
Sure, we don't ride flying skateboards or watch the holographic movie Jaws 19, but Marty McFly's journey wasn't all that far from the truth. So, in one of the frames we can see a video call. A bold look into the future, despite the fact that at that time the use of mobile phones was just beginning.
5. Minority Opinion (2002)
Steven Spielberg hired a team of futurologists to adapt Philip K. Dick's novella, so it's no surprise that the year 2054 shown is real. Thus, the gesture-responsive interface used by Tom Cruise is not so far from the contactless interfaces being developed today, such as Kinect for the X-Box. And personalized advertising has become commonplace for people who use the Internet.
6. Total Recall (1990)
If Google employees can only dream of a triple-breasted woman, then self-driving cars are far from a fantasy flight for them. True, unlike the plot of the film, they are not controlled by a friendly android, but the similarity is still undeniable.
7. Forbidden Planet (1956)
Science fiction in the 1950s predicted a world where people would use small pocket communicators that looked suspiciously like cell phones, which didn't even exist in 1956.
8. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Surprisingly, the film predicted memory erasure. You don't need fancy machines for this, as Dutch scientists have shown that very common heart drugs can have a similar effect when it comes to traumatic memories.
9. The Cable Guy (1996)
In one scene, Jimma Carrey's character shouts, “Soon all Americans will integrate their televisions, phones and computers. You can visit the Louvre on one channel and watch women's wrestling on another. You can shop directly from home or play Mortal Kombat with your friend who is in Vietnam. In the future, the possibilities are endless." This turned out to be a very prophetic prediction about the future of indoor entertainment.
10. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
The film told about a whole bunch of technologies of the future. Along with the tablet computer, personal assistant Siri, and the international space station, Stanley Kubrick also predicted the concept of space tourism years before Virgin Galactic's Richard Branson made the idea a reality.
