10 films about technical geniuses

Movies about tech geniuses aren't hard to find, but they always seem to feature some version of a tech guy in a hoodie (hello Social Network!). While Zuckerberg and company are undoubtedly wizards, we are more than ready for films that showcase the intelligence of girls and women in technology.

We've compiled a list of our favorite technology films, from science fiction to biographies and 80s classics. Grab some popcorn and enjoy!

1. Hidden figures.

Before the advent of computer algorithms that do all the computations for NASA missions, there were human "computers" that did all the computations by hand. Unfortunately, until the release of Hidden Figures, many people didn't know that some of those early computers were black women who were nothing more than mathematical geniuses. Without their contribution, the first space flights might never have taken place - or they might have gone catastrophically wrong.

2. WALL-I.

A lone robot left on Earth, Wall-E stole the hearts of millions of viewers when the film debuted in 2008. When Wall-E (an acronym for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-class) notices a probe named EVE that has returned to Earth to discern the situation, he falls in love and follows her across the galaxy on an epic adventure that demonstrates EVE's ability to save the day.

3. Jimmy Neutron: Boy genius.

You may recognize Jimmy Neutron from the show: a genius boy who lives in a town called Retroville, where he always invents new things to make life more interesting, while at the same time fantasizes about being alone. When all of Retroville's parents are abducted by aliens, Jimmy must rescue them using his wits and ingenuity.

4. War games.

In WarGames, a high school student played by Matthew Broderick accidentally hacks into a military computer that controls nuclear weapons in search of new video games on the net ... and almost starts World War III. His job is to convince the government that he was the one who feigned a Soviet attack and that no retaliation was necessary. (Easier said than done).

5. Back to the future.

Okay, we know we keep beating that 80s drum, but Back to the Future is a classic for good reason, and the 80s marathon is not complete without it. Everything in this movie: time travel to the 1950s, DeLorean turned into a time machine with his flow condenser, the crazy Doc Brown. It all comes together to create one of the best sci-fi comedies ever made.

7. A space odyssey of 2001.

In a 2001 space odyssey, astronauts undertake a mysterious mission aboard Discovery One to investigate a black monolith on Jupiter that appears to be influencing human evolution. They are accompanied by an intelligent computer called HAL, which, as it accomplishes its mission, becomes increasingly unstable and dangerous.

Hackers had a huge impact on many when we were teenagers and were the main reason many people wanted to learn about computers when they were growing up. In the film, a group of teenage hackers (played by Angelina Jolie, Johnny Lee Miller, and Matthew Lillard, among others) team up to prove one of them innocent after he discovers a worm planted in Gibson, a supercomputer used by the Ellingson Mineral Company. designed to steal millions. The film has become a cult hit since its release in 1995. Plus, it features one of the best 90s techno soundtracks ever included in a movie.

9. Network.

On the Web, systems analyst Angela Bennett (Sandra Bullock) is given a computer security backdoor disk sold to Gregg Microsystems, putting her life at risk. 10. A game of imitation.

The imitation game tells the remarkable story of the painful life of mathematician Alan Turing - he played a pivotal role in the development of computers and is considered the father of artificial intelligence. While working as a cryptographer during World War II in England, Turing is part of a team trying to hack into the Enigma machine, a Nazi tool for transmitting secret messages. The film also pays homage to Joan Clarke, his fiancé for a time, but more importantly, a brilliant mathematician and do-it-yourself decoder.
