Why do German policemen wear steel chain mail
Despite scientific and technological progress, there are many things that are as relevant today as 500 years ago. German police officers in the 21st year use chain mail made of steel wire, exactly the same as soldiers wore centuries ago. Until this piece of equipment has become part of the uniform and is worn on special occasions.
German law enforcement officers wear chain mail if they have to work at mass events. Such armor is especially relevant at all kinds of rallies where migrants are present. Every year in Germany, cases of attacks by refugees on police officers are becoming more frequent. And most often in this case cold steel is used.
The problem of police protection was discussed for a long time, but they could not come up with anything better than good old chain mail. Engineers can indefinitely improve protective helmets and body armor, but the chain mail turned out to be good in itself and it does not work to modernize it.
The only thing that distinguishes a modern braided steel shirt from an old one is the material. Chain mail for police officers is made of a durable and lightweight alloy, so they weigh much less than their medieval counterpart. Modern armor, as before, covers the entire body, including the groin and head. Hands are protected by special chain mail gloves.
Although the chain mail of the 21st century is not as heavy as the old ones, it is still a pleasure to wear them. In order to feel comfortable in a metal shirt, a policeman is forced to wear thick clothes under it. You can't fit such equipment on a T—shirt or a naked body - it will rub the body until it bleeds. There should be a police uniform on top of the chain mail, which no one has canceled even in this case.
In addition, it is worth clarifying that chain mail does not protect against bullets. Therefore, a policeman pulls a bulletproof vest over it. It is not difficult to imagine how a person feels in such a multi-layered vestment. But life and health are above all fleeting inconveniences and have to endure.
