What schools look like: Let's compare Russia and the USA

Vadim Nefediev writes: “In one of the Moscow schools, they study on MacBooks, and in the American one there are lockers. Why do we associate a cool school with a school from a foreign film? Is it because our brown boxes are disgusting? The essence of this post: we need to stop making schools brown and tasteless, and develop a modern style that attracts envious sighs. Well, or just do it like in the West, which is easier and cheaper. Someone will say that the buildings will be similar. So they are now like two drops of water.

1. Let's start with the corridors.

For some reason, it started up that everything should be brown. Apparently, here, as with yellow-green fences in Moscow, everything is “for people”: it both calms and does not let you relax. I have been to many schools throughout Russia. So, only in a few did I see walls of other colors: white and green, which is also, in principle, terrible. Note that in most institutions they make cosmetic repairs more often than once every five years, but stubbornly leave the "design" the same. At the end of the post I will tell you how I see the solution to the problem.

2. Furniture in schools, especially old ones, is changed frequently. So why not buy a beautiful one? If buyers have no taste, give it to the regional level. There is another problem in public procurement - the order is taken by the one who takes less, regardless of the quality.

3. It would be nice to have old schools built in poor times, but the new ones already look outdated.

Varlamov has already talked about Russian architecture: “In Russia, we simply don’t have a customer for good quality modern architecture. Therefore, there are no architects - nobody needs them. Even if there is a desire to do something well, the project is destroyed at the implementation stage, when savings on technologies and materials begin. While there is a struggle for square meters and the cost of construction, nothing but glass-plastic sheds will be built. But something else worries me more, people do not understand architecture at all. Look around, all these pseudo-classical gaudy sheds, all these houses from computer games, all these vulgar gypsy palaces, they do not just appear. They appear because you like them, the chief architect of your city likes them, your neighbors like them, seizing on money and power. There is nothing to add. From open sources, a school for 100 places costs from 30 to 50 million rubles, and for 1000 - 500-600 million rubles. Prices vary greatly.
