Underwater portraits of people who dived into a pool of icy water
Photographer Daan Verhoeven is a big fan of freediving (scuba diving with breath holding). It is able to dive to a depth of up to 40 meters without bulky equipment. Of course, not counting the camera, with which he captures the mysterious fascinating underwater world on his pictures. His latest series is very interesting: Daan filmed the unique reaction of people who dived into a small pool, the water in which was cooled to only 4 degrees Celsius.
Verhoeven faced diving into icy water at the scuba Diving Championship in the Finnish city of Turku. Next to the huge 50-meter pool there was another one, slightly larger than a bath. Daan decided to dive there, and the effect was stunning: his sinuses almost froze, and his legs cramped when he tried to swim to the surface. Soon these unpleasant sensations were replaced by a slight dizziness, a joyful feeling that you are alive, and a pleasant tingling.
After such an extreme dive, Daan got inspired: he decided to capture the unique reactions of people diving into icy water.
