The Spaniard invented the "analog Telegram" for his beloved grandmother»
Older people are often at odds with modern gadgets and have to put up with it. But the Spanish engineer from the city of Burgas, Manuel Dallo, decided to make friends with his 96-year-old grandmother with digital technologies and achieved serious success in this. The analog device he invented allowed the old woman to communicate with relatives via messenger, without even having a smartphone.
The idea to create a device for communication of elderly people in the telegram came to Manuel in connection with the pandemic. His grandmother, because of the quarantine, was deprived of the joy of communicating with her children and grandchildren, which made her very sad. So there was Yayagram ("Babushkagram"), with which an elderly woman can now call her loved ones at any time and chat with them using voice messages or get a printout of text messages.
The gadget turned out to be an impressive size and this is not surprising. In Yayagram, Dallo used only analog switches that the old lady understood and worked flawlessly. To contact one of the several available Telegram users, you need to insert the cable into a specific connector on the front panel of the device. After that, you need to press the record button and, without releasing it, dictate a message into the microphone.
The note will be immediately sent to the subscriber whose name is indicated near the connector and he will receive it on his smartphone as a normal message. Yayagram prints incoming text messages using a small printer that uses the most common paper tape from the cash register.
The inventor shared the details of his work in a blog, where everyone can learn about Yayagram and its use as much useful information as possible. Manuel Dallo does not keep the design of his device a secret and said that it is based on a digital device – a Raspberry Pi 4 microcomputer. The software for the" analog telegram " is written in the Python programming language.
When asked by reporters why Telegram was chosen for the work, and not WhatsApp or any other messenger, Dallo said that he liked Pavel Durov's product more because of its maximum openness and ease of use. Yes, the use of analog technology in the digital world was not invented by the Spanish engineer Dallo. Unusual devices "for grandmothers", for example, a disk mobile phone, have appeared before.
