The ship, known as "Stalin's yacht", can be sold for 20 million rubles
The Moscow River Shipping Company (MRP) has found a buyer for the Maxim Gorky motor ship, known as Stalin's Yacht. Now the ship, built in 1934, is used as a restaurant. MRP General Director Konstantin Anisimov told Kommersant that the organization is negotiating with the Azerbaijan Shipping Company and the administration of Nizhny Novgorod. He did not name the amount of the proposed transaction, but, according to the sources of the publication, we are talking about about 20 million rubles.
Source: KommersantThe Maxim Gorky ship was built at the Krasnoe Sormovo shipyard in Nizhny Novgorod by the personal order of Joseph Stalin: he was to become the personal motor ship of the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee. The length of the "Stalin yacht" is 69 meters, the width is 13 meters.
In the press, the ship began to be called "Stalin's yacht", but there is no confirmation that the leader rested on it. It is also unknown whether Gorky has ever been on a ship named after himself. However, "Maxim Gorky" carried the first persons of the party: Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Beria, Kaganovich, Mikoyan, Ordzhonikidze and Molotov. Banquets, holidays and walks along the Moscow Canal were arranged on it.
In the 1950s, the ship began to serve more ordinary passengers: delegations of ministries and departments, workers and creative teams.
In the 2000s, the ship was restored: the skin, engine and navigation systems were changed.
After that, Maxim Gorky was used as a banquet and pleasure vessel, but since 2014 it has only had the function of a restaurant.
