The Canadian sued the ex-girlfriend 350 thousand dollars for the fact that she ruined his career
A young Canadian Eric Abramowitz has obtained through the court a payment of 350 thousand dollars from Jennifer Lee, his ex-girlfriend, for ruining his musical career by forging a letter on his behalf.
In 2014, Jennifer, whom Eric was dating at the time, refused in a letter on his behalf from studying at the Colburn Conservatory and a scholarship, which the young man had long dreamed of. Jennifer probably did it because she didn't want to break up with Eric. However, Abramowitz found out about the deception and was extremely surprised that his girlfriend was behind it all.
Eric has been preparing for this moment all his life. He has been playing the clarinet since the age of seven and has managed to win many awards, striving with all his might to get into one of the most prestigious conservatories in Los Angeles and study with the best teachers on the planet.
In 2014, 20-year-old Eric went to Los Angeles for a live audition, after which he received an email saying that it was successful. But he never saw the letter itself. He was intercepted by Jennifer Lee, with whom the young man lived. They were both students at the local music conservatory.
The girl had access to Eric's laptop. He left his email account open because he trusted her completely. Jennifer saw the letter and replied on behalf of Abramowitz that he could not accept the offer, as he would be elsewhere. Then she erased all correspondence.
Then the girl created an account on behalf of Mr. Gilad, with whom Eric auditioned, and wrote a refusal to the young man. She also came up with another offer — to the University of Southern California, where Gilad also taught, but with a smaller scholarship, since she knew for sure that Eric would have to refuse, since he could not afford to study.
"I was just petrified when I saw the email. I had to read it several times," Abramowitz said later. — When I got rejected, it was very difficult for me to cope with it. I have experienced many days full of anger, hatred and sadness."
As a result, Eric stayed in Montreal to graduate from the Conservatory, but the relationship with Jennifer did not last long.
Only a few years later, when Eric was at another audition at the University of South Carolina and met Professor Gilad, the young man had the first doubts. Gilad asked what Abramowitz was doing here again, because he had already refused his first offer. Eric didn't know what to say. When one of the students asked why he refused a full scholarship of 50 thousand dollars a year, Eric decided to re-read his old letters again.
He found the one that said about the unsuccessful audition, and sent it to the professor. Gilad did not recognize either the letter or the email address. That is, the letter was not from him.
In the end, Eric thought Jennifer might have been involved. And he finally became convinced of his rightness when he hacked the fake account of the "professor", using one of her favorite passwords.
The lawsuit, which was filed in Jennifer Lee's home province of Ontario, listed damages such as loss of reputation, educational opportunities and delay in choosing a profession.
In his testimony , Professor Gilad stated: "I am extremely upset that such a gifted and talented musician as Eric has become a victim of an unthinkable and immoral act that has led to a slowdown in the progress and development of a budding musician and his musical career."
Jennifer Lee herself has never appeared in court and does not answer questions from the media. And Eric Abramowitz was recently accepted into the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
