Annie was the third of six children in the family of a US Air Force officer, and her family moved quite often because of her father's official duties. She shot the first shots in the Philippines, where her father was stationed during the Vietnam War. Later, Annie studied at the San Francisco Institute of Art. Since 1970, she worked as a photographer for Rolling Stone magazine, and since 1983, she began working with Vanity Fair magazine, for which she made an unforgettable series of portrait photos of celebrities.
