Terminator Stars: Then and Now
Terminator Genisys opens in theaters this week. Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as promised. But of all the stars of the franchise, he is the only one who is involved in the fifth film. In Alan Taylor's film, Sarah Connor, her son John and Kyle Reese are played by various new people.
But what happened to those who became famous for their roles in the first two (to be honest, still the best) "Terminators"? More than 30 years have passed since the release of the first film by James Cameron (and 25 years since the release of the second), and the fates of the actors have developed in different ways.

1. Then: Schwarzenegger has starred in three Terminator films so far, a time-traveling cyborg with human skin and a T-800 endoskeleton. Prior to the first film in 1984, the Austrian was the star of Conan the Barbarian and a multiple winner of the Mr. Universe contest.
2. Now: After The Terminator, Arnie became one of the main action stars in the history of Hollywood. He has starred in hit video shows like Commandos, Predator, Running Man, Total Recall, and the comedies Kindergarten Cop and Junior. After serving eight years as governor of California, 67-year-old Schwarzenegger returned to the major acting league. In the last couple of years, he has not only parasitized on his former glory (Return of the Hero, Escape Plan, Sabotage, The Expendables sequels), but also moved into a modest indie, playing in the zombie drama Maggie.
Linda Hamilton
3. Then: Before that, unknown to anyone, Hamilton became famous all over the world, playing Sarah Connor in the first "Terminator". She also reprized her role in the second film six years later, but it was already a completely different character - the place of the intimidated waitress was taken by a beefy warrior and part-time patient of a psychiatric hospital.
4. Now: She couldn't really cash in on the fame that The Terminator brought her (apart from her costly divorce from James Cameron), but she continued her career in film and television with mixed success. For example, she played Katherine Chandler in the fantasy series Beauty and the Beast, and even earned a Golden Globe nomination in 1995 for her role in the TV movie A Mother's Prayer. Among her recent works are the TV series "Call of Blood" and "Challenge".
Michael Bean
5. Then: Bean, 28, played Kyle Reese in the first film, who was sent back in time by John Connor to protect his mother from a T-800. And at the same time he became his, John, father. Before that, Bean had no notable roles.
6. Now: Unlike many stars in the franchise, he managed to build a relatively successful career as a character actor in the wake of The Terminator. Bean has played roles in Aliens, The Abyss, The Rock, Stopping Time, Planet Terror, and many other films. In recent years, he completely went into directing, putting on the films "Blood Connection" and "Victim".
Edward Furlong
7. Then: Young Furlong at the age of 13 played John Connor in the second "Terminator" - this was his first role, and early fame clearly did not go in the guy's favor.
8. Now: Roles in Little Odessa, American History X, and Detroit Rock City were all promising, but the showy battle with alcoholism, rehab, and arrests for domestic violence somewhat ruined the young actor's career. Now 37, Furlong plays exclusively in low-budget back-and-forth films like Zombie King and The Seam. One of his last roles was in Uwe Boll's Attack on Wall Street.
Robert Patrick
9. THEN: In Terminator 2, Patrick played an invulnerable T-1000 liquid metal cyborg sent back in time to kill John Connor. Before that, he managed to appear in a prominent role in the sequel to Die Hard.
10. Now: Initially mired in martial arts films, Patrick has made his way to adulthood, and now his career is lean and reliable. In the last 10 years, he has appeared in films such as Walk the Line, We're One Team, Crazy SWAT, Passcode Cape Town, Gangster Squads and many more. He has also played roles in various series, from The X-Files to From Dusk Till Dawn. Rumor has it that in the fifth "Terminator" Patrick will appear in an honorary cameo (not in the image of the T-1000).
Joe Morton
11. Then: Morton played the important role of Miles Dyson, a scientist at Cyberdyne who, based on the wreckage of the T-800, created new technologies that led to the emergence of Skynet. It was him that Sarah wanted to kill so much in the second film.
12. Now: Despite a Tony Award nomination and 70 film roles (including Dragonfly, Speed, What Lies, Payback, Able Student, and Gangster), both before and after the "Terminator" Morton constantly played on TV. In recent years, he has appeared in the TV series "House Doctor", "Eureka", "White Collar", "Proper Wife". He even won an Emmy last year for his guest role on the TV drama show Scandal.
On July 2, not only Terminator Genisys was released in Russia, but also a restored copy of the original 1984 James Cameron film. The Terminator will be shown in all cinemas of the Cinema Park chain across the country.
