Sexiest Men - Then and Now
The American magazine People is known all over the world. However, not only interesting articles, exciting interviews and the latest news from the world of show business make it so popular. Every year the magazine awards its own award - "Sexiest Man of the Year". Basically, actors get it, although this year is an exception, and the title went to singer Adam Levine.
In this issue, we present you the winner of the title "Sexiest Man" from 1985 to 2013. You will see a collage of two photos - a photo taken at the time when the celebrity was nominated by People magazine, and a photo reflecting the current "state of affairs". Only those title holders who are alive today are represented here.

1. Australian actor Mel Gibson was the first person to be named the sexiest man of the year by the American magazine People in 1985. (REX)
2. 1986: Mark Harmon, American actor who also played American football.
He was nominated for an Emmy in 1977 for his portrayal of Robert Dunlap in the TV movie Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years. Since 2003, Harmon has starred as Leeroy Jethro Gibbs on the CBS series NCIS. (REX)
3. 1987: Harry Hamlin, American actor who played lawyer Michael Kuzak on L.A. Law from 1986 to 1991.
He has since appeared in several episodes of the sixth season of Mad Men as Jim Cutler, and in 2013 was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor on A Tale of Two Cities. In 1988, John F. Kennedy Jr. was chosen as the sexiest man in the world. He died in 1999. (REX)
4. 1989: Sean Connery.
At 59, the Scottish actor became the oldest man and the first Briton to be named the sexiest man in the world in 1989. He was also the first James Bond. (REX)
5. 1990: Tom Cruise.
The American actor has been nominated for three Oscars and won three Golden Globes. This is the highest paid actor in Hollywood. Rain Man (1988), A Few Good Men (1992), Jerry McGuire (1996), Vanilla Sky (2001), Minority Report (2002), The Last Samurai (2003), Companion" (2004), "War of the Worlds" (2005), "Soldiers of Failure" (2008), "Jack Reacher" (2012) and "Oblivion" (2013). In 1991, Patrick Swayze was recognized as the sexiest man in the world, who died in 2009. (REX)
6. 1992: Nick Nolte.
Born in 1941, actor from Nebraska, USA. He was nominated for an Oscar three times, twice for Best Actor and once for Best Supporting Actor. His films include: The Abyss (1977), 48 Hours (1982), Penniless in Beverly Hills (1986), Another 48 Hours (1990), Lord of the Tides (1991), Cape Fear (1991), Oil Lorenzo (1992), Sorrow (1997), The Thin Red Line (1998), Hulk (2003), The Good Thief (2003) and The Warrior (2011). 7. 1993: Richard Gere.
In 1993, People magazine took a break and instead of the "Sexiest Man" award, they presented the "Sexiest Couple" award to Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford. Gere has many hit films in his treasury, including An Officer and a Gentleman, Pretty Woman, Primal Fear, Vicious Passion and Chicago. No award was given in 1994. (REX)
8. 1995: Brad Pitt, the first of his two awards.
He was born in 1963 and received four Oscar nominations and five Golden Globe nominations. 9. 1996: Denzel Washington
The American actor has so far become the only African-American to win the title. Washington has won two Golden Globes and a Tony Award, as well as two Oscars: Best Supporting Actor in Fame (1989) and Best Actor in Training Day (2001). (REX)
10. 1997: George Clooney, the first of his two awards.
This is the only actor who was nominated for an Oscar in six different categories. The actor, director, producer and screenwriter has won three Golden Globes for his work as an actor and two Oscars - one for acting and the other for co-producing Argo in 2013. 11. 1998: Harrison Ford, American actor and producer.
He played leading roles in the films Star Wars and Indiana Jones. He is married to actress Calista Flockhart. (REX)

15. 2002: Ben Affleck, American actor, director, producer and screenwriter.
As a screenwriter, he became famous, receiving an Oscar and a Golden Globe for best screenplay for Good Will Hunting (1997) with Matt Damon. Starred in the films Armageddon (1998), Pearl Harbor (2001), Miracle Row (2002), The Price of Fear (2002), Daredevil (2003) and City of Thieves (2010) . (REX)
16. 2003: Johnny Depp, first of two awards.
He was nominated for top awards many times, but he only received a Golden Globe for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. (REX)
17. 2004: Jude Law.
He was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor for The Talented Mr. Ripley in 1999. In 2000, he won the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor for this role in the film. In 2003, he was nominated for an Oscar as best actor for Cold Mountain. He also became famous after the role of Dr. Watson in 2009 and in the sequel to Sherlock Holmes in 2011. (REX)
