Saints from the "scoop" from the Kazakh photographer, brought her victory in Paris
Svetlana Melik-Nubarova, a photographer from Alma-Ata, brought glory to Kazakhstan by winning the prestigious French photo contest Px3 Prix de la Photographie Paris. Moreover, Svetlana's project, which she called "From our past", received awards in two categories at once "High Art" and "Books Recommended for printing".
In the series "From our Past" there are 5 photos dedicated to recognizable Soviet types — an NKVD officer, a saleswoman, an October boy, a worker and a student. All the characters are shown by the photographer in the form of saints with a halo over their heads and some iconic object in their hands.
Svetlana commented on her work as follows:
Let's evaluate the images created by the master and try to understand what attracted the respected international jury in her works so much.
The only hero of the series who was denied sainthood
The worker is depicted against the background of an industrial landscape immersed in a haze, which makes the work related to Renaissance paintings
Pineapple and banknotes peeking out of the neckline — this is how Svetlana sees a Soviet trade worker
The student was not given anything in her hands, but there is a pigeon in the frame
For those who remember the Soviet era, the image of the October boy is inseparable from books about the life of the leader of the world proletariat
Agree, the photos are good and it's not for nothing that they won first places at the Paris photo contest. We wish Svetlana new victories and creative success in her interesting work.
