Russia won the Sumo World Championship
Sports victories of the motherland are always pleasant, and it does not matter in which sport cups and medals are won: beach soccer or sumo. And this is not a joke at all — Russia really won the Sumo World Championship. Guess who took second place?
The World Sumo Championship was held in Taiwan Taipei, which was attended by athletes from 25 countries. At the same time, Russian sumo wrestlers won 7 out of 10 possible gold medals of the championship. In second place is Ukraine, which has one gold, one silver and one bronze medal, the Japanese are only the third with one gold, two silver and four bronze awards. In team wrestling, the Russian women's national team won gold, winning in the final against the Japanese team. But, as commentators on Pikabu write, in fact this Taiwanese championship is nothing more than an amateur tournament, while professional sumo tournaments are held only in Japan itself and only 6 times a year. All the strongest athletes take part in them, including all yokozuna (the highest rank of a sumo wrestler). And at this event from Japan there were those sumo wrestlers who could not break into the professionals or at best have a low rank.
