Princesses in cleats: a mother from Alabama made an unusual photo project about girls and their right to choose
A princess or an athlete, tender and vulnerable or a daredevil: girls are different. Mothers often say that their daughters will never play sports because they are too feminine for this, or vice versa: they constantly play boys' games and will never wear a dress. But is it worth dividing them into categories, without giving a chance to go beyond the created image?
A photographer and a mother from Alabama showed with her unusual photo project that girls can be feminine and athletic at the same time.
The idea of creating an unusual photo project dawned on Heather Mitchell after talking with other mothers at a sports club, where she brought her 8-year-old daughter to soccer classes. One of the women said that the girl would not be able to play on the field because she was too "princess".These words hooked Heather and made her think about the framework in which society puts girls. Why do they have to choose — to be a princess or to be an athlete? Why can't they combine femininity and strength at the same time? Keywords: Girls | Daughters | Mothers | Beautiful photos | Mom | Image | Princess | Frames | Stereotype | Style | Training | Photographer | Football
