Memory Corner: a channel on Reddit where grieving people share the latest pictures of deceased loved ones

Categories: Society |

A channel on the Reddit social network called Last Images ("Last Photos") is a place where grieving relatives and friends post the latest photos with their loved ones who have passed away. Almost 50 thousand people have subscribed to this section.

Among the rules of the thread is the mandatory provision of details about who is depicted in the picture and what happened to this person. Bloody details cannot be posted, as well as jokes about the victims, but publications can be about anyone, even celebrities. There are, in general, a lot of such people here.

In Last Images, you can find the latest famous photos of celebrities who died in 2016, such as David Bowie and Muhammad Ali, as well as long-dead stars, such as Marilyn Monroe.

The participants of the thread also post photos of people who died during tragic events: victims of school shootings, terrorist attacks and high-profile murders.

It's hard to say how much everything in this subreddit is true, but we can assume that most of the posts are relevant to reality.

Rach posted the last joint photo with her boyfriend, who died in a motorcycle accident. The picture was taken during a trip to a place where she loved to visit as a child — a village on the coast of the island of Anglesey in Wales. She stopped to take a selfie together after walking along the shore.

Merrick died just a few days after this photo. On the first anniversary of his death, Rach wanted to let him know what she thought of him. "I made a post in Last Images because I wanted to show people how I felt that day, people not from my circle of acquaintances. I wanted support, but from people with whom I can communicate anonymously. I wanted him to know that I still think about him in a different way, not like in the circle of family and friends," the girl wrote.

A user under the nickname Beer-Wall posted a photo of his ex-girlfriend taken before she went on a bike tour around the country. She went on this trip to collect donations for the study of multiple sclerosis, which her grandfather suffered from. But halfway through she was killed by an inattentive driver, and her grandfather died the same year — the death of his granddaughter severely undermined his health.

"I remember when I found out about it, it seemed to me that it was unreal. Three years later, I still can't believe it. We weren't together then, but she still meant a lot to me, I was not indifferent to her fate. She had just graduated from college with honors, and had survived ovarian cancer at the age of 13. It still hurts a lot that she was gone. I just wanted people to see her and learn something about her. She really was a special person."

Max spent the last day of his father's life riding a bike with him on the island of Uto in Sweden. When his father got tired, they stopped at a bar, and 15-year-old Max played games on his phone while his father enjoyed a glass of beer. When Per was finishing his second glass, his son accidentally took a photo, which turned out to be the last in his father's life.

Two years after his father's death, the guy came across a thread on Reddit and shared this photo. "Comments from other people really lifted my spirits. I still get comments sometimes, and every time they remind me of what a good man my father was. This was the first positive phenomenon after the death of his father. Nothing has eased my sense of loss so much," the guy said.
