Make everyday life with a pen: surreal works by Nuria Riaza
A young Spanish artist Nuria Riaza has chosen a unique technique for creating her paintings. The girl draws surreal works with an ordinary ballpoint pen, complementing them with filigree embroidery thread. She is the only artist in the world who creates paintings in this way and you definitely need to get acquainted with them.
Nuria started drawing seriously quite late – at the age of 16 and for a long time could not find her own technique. Having tried oil, watercolors, pastels and even markers, at the age of 21, the artist chose a blue ballpoint pen for herself.
For you and me, a pen is nothing more than a stationery, and for Riaza it is a whole amazing world in which she sets the rules herself.
Sometimes Nuria lacks the expressiveness of ink to convey her idea, and then the girl boldly adds embroidery to the composition. The artist uses gold, silver, blue and scarlet silk threads to emphasize individual details of the work.
The artist admits that she sometimes uses other techniques, but this happens extremely rarely and only on a whim – the pen and threads allow her to realize any ideas without exception. Nuria believes that pens are universal tools that convey thoughts in the form of texts, symbols and images.
Riaza is absolutely serious about the fact that drawing with pens has a therapeutic effect. At a minimum, they provide an opportunity to distract from problems and calm your nerves. This is akin to meditation and the creation of mandalas, says Nuria.
The girl leads Instagram, where she introduces her subscribers to her favorite works. Now 15 thousand users of the social network have subscribed to the artist's account.
It is difficult to argue with the fact that an ordinary ballpoint pen can become an incredibly expressive tool after getting acquainted with the paintings of photorealist artists.
