Meet the formidable but charming women bodybuilders of the early XX century. They stepped through social norms and trampled on traditional ideas about female beauty. They were both strong and brilliant. Judging by their defined muscles, it is unlikely that they were inferior to men in strength.
"Strong women" first appeared in the XIX century. They participated in sports events and competitions. However, most often they were treated only as just another circus freak. Unfortunately, it was considered very strange and wild for women to have a well-developed body. That is why many of these women was perceived as a spectacle for entertainment.
For example, Katie Brumbach was one of the most famous "supersenses" the beginning of the XX century. She was born in a circus family and followed in the footsteps of their parents. Her father was a "giant", and his mother was also "a strong woman".
Brumbach went to work for Ringling brothers (Ringling Brothers) circus and Barnum & Bailey Circus as a weightlifter, bent with bare hands iron rods and lifted your husband over head with just one hand.
