Her work is a hidden challenge to conventions. She laughs dismissively at the established traditions of fashion photography and “draws” her smiles on portraits of Madonna and Angelina Jolie, who in Bettina Rheims’ photographs forget about their usual roles, appearing completely different, but much more real.
"Women are the basis of my work," says Bettina. At the same time, she does not have as much nudity as her colleagues. And even if there is nudity, breasts and a bare bottom are not what attracts the eye. After all, that's how it should be.

Bettina Rheims was born in 1953 in Paris. She began taking pictures professionally at the age of 26, and before that she had worked as a model, journalist, and even opened an art gallery. Bettina first made a name for herself in the late seventies, publishing a series of photographs in Nicole Wisniak's column. Since then, Rheims has been exploring female sexuality.
