In the USA, a deer killed a hunter who shot him with an arrow the day before
In Tillamouth County, Oregon, there was a story that a few hundred years ago would surely have turned into a saga. There the red deer (that's the name of this species) took revenge on the hunter who shot him with a bow: the animal killed a man. In general, such cases happen, although infrequently, but the uniqueness of this is that the deer dealt with the offender the day after the injury.
Bow and arrow hunting is very popular in the USA. On August 29, an amateur hunter, 66-year-old Mark David from Hillsborough, went to the forest in the hope of shooting wapiti — that's how Americans call the local subspecies of red deer. American deer are much larger and stronger than European ones, so Mark knew that his idea was unsafe.
Mark was lucky — he quickly tracked down a young male and deftly shot him. But the wounded animal rushed to run and the hunter failed to overtake him. Until late in the evening, he followed the traces of blood, hoping that the deer would become exhausted and fall. But this did not happen and Mark David had to return home with nothing.
The next day, the persistent St. John's Wort decided to continue the search, but it would have been better if he had not done so. Together with the huntsman, Mark still found the beast that was near death. But wapiti decided to sell his life dearly — with the last of his strength he rushed at his pursuers and a hunter turned out to be on his way.
The sharp process of the deer's horn pierced the man's carotid artery, leaving him no chance of survival. After this attack, Wapiti managed to hide in the forest. Mark's companion tried to help him, but he died in his arms a few minutes later.
The case when a deer takes revenge on a person some time after the first meeting has not been recorded in the USA before. But it's just that wapiti attacks on hunters in different states of the country occur quite often. In 2019, in Arkansas, a wounded deer rushed at a hunter who was already preparing to finish off the animal with a knife and pierced his stomach with horns. The man, who, by the way, like Mark was 66 years old, also died on the spot.
