How the Arctic is melting: an impressive comparison of the frames of the XX century and modern

Categories: Ecology | Nature |

A hundred years ago, the Arctic was one of the most poorly studied places on our planet. Now it has been explored far and wide, but expeditions arrive here no less often than before. However, with another mission. Scientists are concerned about the consequences of global warming.

Swedish photographer Christian Aslund, who works at Greenpeace, obtained footage of Arctic glaciers from the Norwegian Polar Institute, taken at the beginning of the XX century. After that, he pinpointed the locations where they were filmed, and captured the current state of affairs. The comparison turned out to be disappointing. Fresh water reserves on Earth are steadily declining.
