This homemade boat is called a shanty boat. It is made from improvised materials found in a landfill and elsewhere. Californian Wes Modes, who built a boat, travels along the Tennessee River and meets Americans living near the water. The purpose of his journey is to penetrate and learn more about the history of the United States and about the river travelers of the past.
