Greek student because of the quarantine crossed Europe by bike
This year, no surprise the story about the tourists stranded in a foreign country because of lack of transportation. Quarantine has forced many travelers to ask for help to their governments or to patiently wait for the resumption of flights. But there are people that are stronger than circumstances, and very stubborn. Greek student kleon Papadimitriou (Papadimitriou kleon is), who studied in Scotland, found a simple and cheap, though the hard way to get to his native Athens.
Kleon Papadimitriou — a second year student of the University of Aberdeen, located in the North-East of Scotland. When the epidemic of the coronavirus, he saw other students hurrying to go home, but the guy really didn't want to miss classes and studied to the last.
Then kleon booked three tickets and all three times the flight was canceled due to the restrictions imposed by EU countries. Before the Greek student has not appeared too tempting a prospect to stay in an empty University campus to the weakening of the quarantine, but he decided his problem radically — went to Greece on a bike.
As the guy was not an avid cycle-traveler, he had carefully prepared. The first thing kleon bought any bike and everything you need for long road gear. Also he had to go over the maps to determine an optimal route.
When Papadimitriou shared the idea with relatives, even those not experienced. They were sure that he would give up this insane idea and will patiently wait for the resumption of flights. But obviously not too close knew Cleon — the guy was not going to abandon a European tour by bike.
When it became clear that the trip will take place, the father of a student asked to install on a smartphone application that allows you to set exact coordinates. Family guy wanted to know where he is and that he's all right.
In the way kleon took the stocks of bread, canned sardines, peanut butter, sleeping bag and tent. On may 10 he started his journey. First, the guy crossed the England, then the Netherlands and Germany, which went along the Rhine river. Then a cyclist rode Austria, crossed the Alps and drove along the Eastern coast of Italy.
Then, hiring a boat, the guy left the Peninsula and arrived in the Greek port of Patras. Out of his native country, he quickly and comfortably reached Athens, where he was eagerly expected by the family. Home kleon Papadimitriou was already on 27 may, conducted the it takes exactly 48 days and covered more than 3.5 thousand kilometers.
Its a daunting journey guy very happy. He said he enjoyed seeing different countries and become acquainted with many good people. In addition, the trip allowed Cleon to leave the comfort zone and test their strength in this adventure. The student claims that have become much more confident, after a Cycling trip.
Though Cleon's trip through Europe is a real trifle if to compare it with the journey of the Argentine Juan Matias Amaya, come by Bicycle in five years from his country to Moscow.
