From homeless to hipsters: a former homeless man is moved to tears by his transformation
This is a story about a homeless Spaniard whose appearance was transformed by a local hairdresser out of the kindness of his soul and thereby gave him a new start in life. A little work with scissors, hair coloring and new clothes made a stylish hipster out of an unkempt homeless man. The man barely recognized himself in the mirror.
Jose Antonio, whom the locals of Palma affectionately call Josete, has lived on the street for 25 years. Salva Garcia, the owner of the La Salvajeria beauty salon, invited Jose to come and clean up. When they opened the mirror to show him his newly trimmed beard and luxurious dark hair, Jose burst into tears. "Lord… Is that me?" - the homeless man exclaims on the video that the salon shot and posted on the Internet.
Beaming with pleasure, Jose went for a walk around the city. The locals, accustomed to his wild appearance, gasped admiringly and complimented him. La Salvajeria salon told Spanish TV channels that after the story about Jose spread on the Internet, the former homeless man began to receive financial assistance from an anonymous company and stopped living on the street. "It wasn't just a change of image. It changed my life," Jose shared with reporters.
For 25 years, Jose Antonio lived on the streets of Palma in Spain.
The locals know him well. He helped many of them to park for a small handout.
The owner of the barbershop La Salvajeria, Salva Garcia, offered Jose to get a haircut and clean up completely free of charge.
It was not an easy job: Jose had long and matted hair and beard. All this had to be cut and laid.
Jose's hair was dyed a dark brown shade: a more youthful appearance would help him get a good job.
The locals provided Jose with a new snow-white shirt and a pair of red cropped trousers.
He himself asked that the mirror in the salon be hung until his transformation was completed.
When the mirror was finally opened, Jose was so moved that he began to sob.
He was barely recognizable. "Lord… Is that me?" he exclaimed.
Awfully pleased, Jose went to town to flaunt his newfound hipster look.
For him, this change of image turned out to be a change in life.
