Bernard Vaucien, now retired, led a team of chefs who cooked for French presidents for nearly 40 years. The other day, he revealed some secrets about the dietary habits of the presidents he has fed.
According to Vaucien, Jacques Chirac has a particular weakness for snails and sauerkraut, François Mitterrand preferred seafood, Nicolas Sarkozy cannot do without cheese, and the current president, François Hollande, is practically "omnivorous."

1. Margaret Thatcher
In 2010, the press got the menu of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, which was embedded in her personal diary in 1979. It consisted of boiled eggs, black coffee, tomatoes, lettuce, grapefruit and meat. This diet was supposed to help Thatcher quickly lose weight before the 1979 elections. And just for this, a personal chef was hired. And usually Thatcher cooked for herself, her husband Denis, and sometimes even for members of her cabinet.
2. Evo Morales
In 2010, Bolivian President Evo Morales sparked a heated discussion when he declared chicken to be almost the main cause of homosexuality. “The chicken we eat is loaded with female hormones,” he said. Therefore, the men who eat it are no longer quite men.” Morales' favorite food, by his own admission, is the healthy quinoa soup. He never eats Western fast food, considering it the cause of cancer and other diseases.
3. Richard Nixon
Nixon's love of ketchup is well known. The most favorite snack of the former US president was pressed cottage cheese with pineapple pieces, poured with ketchup. Such a strange combination of flavors he preferred for breakfast. It is said that this dish was the last thing he ate at the White House.
4. Kim Jong Il
The leader of North Korea was a big foodie. He sent his representatives to different parts of the world in search of more and more delicacies, including caviar, elite varieties of pork and papaya. Kim Jong Il's personal sushi chef, whose name was Kenji Fujimoto, said that each grain of rice was carefully checked for the smallest damage and scratches. Fujimoto said that the Korean leader dreamed of tasting hippo meat, snakes and spiders soaked in cognac or the best French wine.
5. Winston Churchill
It is well known how much importance Churchill attached to table conversation. I must say that his culinary preferences also betrayed an extraordinary personality in him. He loved Stilton cheese (an aged, semi-hard cheese with a high fat content), oysters, game roast, and an ice cream dessert paired with fresh fruit. The former prime minister also loved French cuisine and even sitting in a trench would not eat anything.
6. Barack Obama
The basis of a typical lunch of the current President of the United States is a sandwich. Obama admits that he hates beets and prefers broccoli as a summer vegetable, unlike his predecessor Bush, who admitted to reporters in 1990 that he has not tolerated any vegetables since childhood.
7. Angela Merkel
The German chancellor grew up in the eastern part of the country, where there was always a shortage of food, and people had to stand in long lines for her. Merkel admits that she still has a habit of stocking food for future use. The Chancellor loves to cook and lists steamed vegetables, spicy kebabs, potato soup, trout and plum pie among his favorite foods.
8. Vladimir Putin
The Russian president is not particularly open about his culinary habits, however, according to rumors, he has a soft spot for ice cream, especially pistachio. As for the rest, it is only known for certain that all of his dishes must pass a test for the presence of poisons.
