Experts say that by cutting the daily diet by only 250 calories, you can live longer
Yummy treats delight the soul, but they are harmful to health. Nevertheless, to keep a good shape, it is enough to give up one of them and start moving more. Doctors from the United States conducted a large-scale experiment, which involved elderly people suffering from obesity. In several groups, participants reduced their daily calorie intake in different ways to get an idea of the impact of caloric intake on health and weight loss. Find out what happened as a result of the research from our material.
Experts say that if you remove only 250 calories from your daily diet, and this is a pack of chips and a can of cola, you can significantly improve your health. Doctors say that you need to limit the consumption of sweets, allowing yourself desserts and chocolate only occasionally. A donut and a muffin contain about 400 calories, so it is better to replace them with fruit.
American doctors have conducted a large study. They collected data on 160 patients aged 65 to 79 years, suffering from obesity and leading a sedentary lifestyle. The participants of the experiment were divided into several groups and different diets and training regimes were made for them for 20 weeks.
In the first group, people ate what they usually ate and trained daily. The participants of the second group trained, while reducing the energy value of the daily diet by 250 kilocalories. In the third group, people trained and consumed 600 kilocalories less than usual. Aerobic training was conducted under the supervision of professionals, and in groups where the number of calories was reduced, participants received ready-made lunches and dinners that were 30% less caloric than usual.
At the end of the experiment, obese patients were measured the speed of the pulse wave with which blood travels along the main artery — the aorta. As a result, it turned out that physical activity and the reduction of calories contribute to the softening of the aortic walls and improve the overall condition of the vessels. However, in the group where calorie intake was cut the most, there were no similar improvements, although its participants lost about the same amount of weight as people from the second group.
During five months of moderate calorie reduction, each of the patients in the second group lost about 10% weight. Their pulse wave speed decreased by 8%, as the walls of the arteries became softer. In addition, the body mass index of the subjects with a reduced calorie diet and the percentage of body fat were better than those who simply trained.
Thus, the study showed that the combination of training and a moderate reduction in the caloric content of the diet significantly improves the condition of blood vessels. Experts say that it is not necessary to reduce daily calorie intake to a minimum in order to lose weight and improve health. The golden mean is the way to good health and longevity.
Here's what 200 calories look like on a plate. This way you will be able to find out what to exclude from the daily diet, and what to leave.
