Double exposure on Pacayla Rae Bean's canvases
It would seem that in order to create paintings in a realistic manner, every artist must have excellent eyesight. But actually it is not. History knows many examples when great artists, who are fluent in complex visual techniques, suffered from serious eye diseases. For example, Degas, because of his poor eyesight, was not even taken as a volunteer in the infantry and he had to serve in an artillery regiment. The famous Russian artist Mikhail Vrubel also had very serious eye problems in the second half of his life.
American artist Pakayla Rae Biehn has been suffering from severe strabismus since birth. In early childhood, she had to undergo as many as three corrective surgeries, but the doctors failed to completely eliminate the strongest vision problem.
