Dachshund who lost 22 kg
Meet Obi, a dachshund male who managed to lose 22 kg. He lives in Portland, Oregon with his owner Nora Vanatta. At the peak of his obesity, Obi weighed 35 kg, but now, thanks to diet, surgery and long walks, he has managed to reach a healthy weight of 12 kg. Obie celebrated this success with a walk to the beach last weekend.

1. The story of the “obese” 5-year-old dachshund Obie caused public outrage a year ago, when photos of this poor fellow with a huge belly and sad eyes appeared on the Internet.
2. At that time, Obi belonged to an elderly couple who fed him to satiety "out of love" and kept the dog at home, not walking it properly.
3. Nora Vanatta, a veterinarian by trade, adopted Obie last summer and immediately began helping him lose weight.
4. Wanatta put Obie on a strict diet, and by May 2013, the dachshund had already lost 18 kg. But the matter did not end there, and during the summer the dog actively dropped extra pounds in order to achieve optimal weight.
5. Obie also had to go under the knife to have several kilos of loose skin cut off.
6. In September, Obi had another cosmetic surgery.
7. Obie already has a lot of fans who follow his success on his Facebook page. The dog was so fat that she had to wear a special garter so as not to injure her huge belly and chest. Luckily for Obie, Nora Vanatta came into her life.
8. But Oregon Dachshund Rescue owner Jenelle Rangan started accusing Nora of using Obie for "scoop advertising." He even sued her. Obi became a real TV celebrity, appearing in several programs and broadcasts.
9. He has over 116,000 followers on his Facebook page. Miss Vanatta raised thousands of dollars for Obie's treatment. The girl claims that everything she did was only for the sake of the dog.
10. The charity Oregon Dachshund Rescue created an online petition for this dachshund, after which it was taken from its former owners and given to Nora, who agreed to get her in shape.
11. “Obi is famous and he touched so many hearts,” says Nora.
12. An elderly couple abandoned a dog because of their own poor health. The normal weight of a dachshund is 14 kg, but at the age of five Obi weighed twice as much. "When I first saw him, he weighed 35 kg."
13. “He is very sweet and kind. Of course, he had loving owners. It's just that this older couple couldn't say no to those big brown eyes. But we are glad that we were able to help the dog, and that now Obie can start life anew.”
14. First I had to go on a diet and resort to hydrotherapy, and only then, when the kilograms began to go away, switch to physical activity and exercise.
15. Nora set up an account for Obie, which began to receive money for treatment. “I am glad that I took on this project, and I am very pleased that people have shown support and care.”
16. “Hopefully Obi will be an inspiration to everyone – people and animals – who are trying to lose weight. It is very important to lead a healthy lifestyle from an early age.”
