Celebrities in the frame of Mark Seliger
Mark Seliger was born in 1959 in Amarillo, Texas, where he lived with his parents, two older brothers and a younger sister until 1964, when the family moved to Houston. Seliger's early interest in photography was sparked when his brother Frank promised to give him his Diana camera if Mark hit the ball and ran to base while playing in the boys' baseball league. True, he never hit the ball, but he got the right to stand on the base when the ball hit his shoulder - and the camera was his! Very soon, he began to spend all his free time in a dark bathroom, experimenting with developing and printing photographs. Seliger attended the Houston High School of Acting and Fine Arts, and later the University of East Texas (East Texas State), where he began to seriously study the history of documentary photography.
The photographer moved to New York in 1984. In 1987, he began shooting for Rolling Stone magazine, and in 1992 he became their chief photographer. During his time at Rolling Stone, Seliger shot over 125 covers and began a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership with design director Fred Woodward that continues to this day. Together they have directed numerous music videos for artists such as Willie Nelson, Lenny Kravitz and Elvis Costello. Currently, Mark Seliger works for numerous glossy publications, and the list of his customers includes the largest American companies. Seliger's photographs have also received countless of the most honorable awards.
