Dutch artist Herman Tulp is well known in his homeland. His landscapes, still lifes and portraits can be seen in many museums and private collections. But his erotic paintings are especially popular. Tulp writes them in the genre of hyperrealism, working out every detail with photographic precision. Women in the artist’s canvases are depicted in a variety of situations. They change clothes, relax, are happy, sad, work - they are natural and invariably beautiful. (Warning! Nudity).

Herman Tulp was born in 1955 in Zwolle, the Netherlands. There were no artists in his family, but Herman’s father owned a stationery store. The child had no shortage of paper, paints and pencils, and the beauty of his native city with many architectural monuments gave inspiration.

After graduating from school, Tulp entered the prestigious Minerva Academy in Groningen. There he studied classical painting for five years under the guidance of famous artists Wout Müller and Matthijs Relling. After receiving his diploma, he chose the path of a freelancer and spent many years working as an illustrator. Tulp designed books and magazines and created advertising brochures.

Despite being very busy, the artist found time for creativity. At first he presented still lifes and city landscapes at exhibitions, and later portraits. Recognition was not long in coming, and soon Herman Tulp’s works began to be purchased for collections and museums.

In 2009, the artist published a book with his best works, “Herman, thirty-eight years of painting,” with comments from people of art and gallery owners. The author devoted a special place in the book to his erotic female portraits, which few had seen before.

After the release of the publication, connoisseurs of the genre became very interested in this facet of Tulp’s talent. Now many people know the master precisely by his tender, candid portraits, sometimes not suspecting that this is only a tiny part of his work.
