Beach fashion 1920-30s
The beach fashion of the “crazy twenties” was a kind of challenge to society. Women began wearing swimsuits that exposed their arms and legs. The fabrics from which swimsuits were made were still far from perfect. But, unlike the beach fashion of the beginning of the century, when a woman approached the water dressed from head to toe, the fashion of the post-war decade, despite the heavy woolen and stretchy cotton knitwear, gave women the opportunity to experience the beauty of relaxing on the water.
In the 1920s, many Mediterranean beaches appeared and became famous: in Italy, on the islands - they are still popular today. Bathing cabins and separate beaches are gradually becoming a thing of the past. Everyone began to swim in front of everyone.
A holiday on the beach turns into a social event of sorts. In the 1930s, beach culture became widespread throughout the world, took shape, and exists in this form to this day. Special beach entertainment appeared: bowling, tennis, badminton (volleyball, a much more democratic game, came to the beach later), various competitions. Including a fun beauty contest, which first appeared in the early 20s. This beach fun began to be carried out at a fairly high professional level in the 30s. The ladies needed beach sets, pareo capes, and wide hats. All the beachwear that was popular in the 1970s was just a repetition of the 1930s models. 1. Bathing machine - a device popular in the 18th and 19th centuries that allowed people to change into a bathing suit.
