After seeing this, you will want to go to Yakutia: a walk on the ice in the hot summer
Pikabushnik Matvig with his smiling girlfriend Maria went in search of winter in the summer. As a result, these amazing photos they took on a glacier in the middle of a summer forest.
It was in June 2018 in the Neryungri district, when the air temperature was +26 degrees. Yakutia is a surprisingly contrasting republic in which the teeth—grinding cold can coexist with abnormal heat. Permafrost permeates the vast expanses of the taiga with its breath. So one such beautiful hot day, after collecting backpacks, Maria and I went into the forest in search of winter.
The glacier itself is located near the village of Serebryany Bor, Neryungrinsky district. The trail is well trodden, it is clear that locals constantly go to the glacier. The path runs through picturesque views, on the way here and there there are the main companions of spring — snowdrops.
By Neryungri standards, it's quite hot outside, and such a spring is a real salvation.
After about an hour of walking, we finally came out on the ice exuding frosty air.
Ice (in the common people it is called simply "Glacier") occupies the entire valley in the decay. According to our calculations, the glacier is about 1 kilometer long, with an ice thickness of more than 3 meters.
Due to the heat, the glacier "cries" with a million streams, which in some places merge into small rivers and rush down like a waterfall.
The scale is amazing: blocks of ice exuding cold and freshness, standing like giants, not giving up their positions even to the scorching Yakut sun.
The process of shooting some photos forced me to plunge knee-deep into icy water. It's a feeling when the summer sun is already baking your head, and your legs are cramping from the cold. Contrast in everything!
I will not paint the beauty of the glacier, but just show them, watch and enjoy!
Being on a glacier, you plunge into a completely different reality.
You know, I love our nature, so contrasting, so harsh, capable of falling asleep for 9 months and waking up literally in a couple of warm days. This amazing natural monument, like nothing else, symbolizes all the beauty and contrast of our Yakutia.
Discover, explore and love the area in which you live, and you will discover how many amazing places our forests store. Observe, enjoy the beauty and preserve these natural resources!
