A miniature Bible of the 15th century made of pure gold has been found in the UK
Many people these days spend their free time in the company of a metal detector. Most of them have no illusions and are happy with the simplest finds from the past - buttons and small coins. But sometimes such lovers are lucky, like, for example, the spouses from the UK Ian and Buffy Bailey (Ian and Buffy Bailey). They found a medieval tiny Bible made of gold.
Buffy Bailey met with journalists and told the circumstances of the amazing find. A woman who works as a nurse prefers not to watch TV shows in her free time, but to search with a metal detector. Together with her husband, who supports her hobby, they traveled all over the UK and made many interesting discoveries.
The most valuable find was waiting for them in York County. This place was chosen by a family of archeology enthusiasts because it has a very rich and interesting history. And they did not lose — the find made by them has historical, cultural and material value at once.
Having found a small object at a shallow depth with the device, the couple did not experience any special emotions. They decided that it was another brass medallion from a souvenir shop or an ear tag with which they mark sheep. But at a depth of 12 cm, they unexpectedly found a tiny bible.
The length of the artifact is only 1.5 cm, and the weight is 5 g. The material for the product was 22 and 24 carat gold. Buffy says the Bible was found near Sheriff Hutton Castle, the residence of King Richard III. Scientists, having studied the subject, reported that it was made no later than the 15th century.
According to a number of signs, it can be said that the jeweler made this jewel for a woman. Most likely, it was a certain high-born lady, possibly a relative of Richard III. Another nuance was told by the images on the tiny pages of the golden book. These are symbols and figures designed to protect a pregnant woman from many misfortunes.
The find made near Sheriff Hutton Castle resembles another jewel found 64 km from Middleham Castle. There, a gold pendant was found underground, about the same era. He was also associated with the person of Richard III, who spent his childhood years in Middleham.
Treasures of great value are found in different parts of the world by both professionals and amateurs. Sometimes even the most experienced experts cannot name the value of treasures.
