A hair's breadth from death
This grandiose accident occurred recently on a bridge in the Chinese city of Kaili, Guizhou province. A truck carrying 10 brand new truck bodies veered off the road and was within a millimeter of falling off the bridge into the valley below. Fortunately, no one was hurt: the driver and passenger found the strength not to look down and very carefully get out of the cabin onto the bridge.

1. The incident occurred when the driver had to swerve to the right after another driver cut him off. Despite his best efforts, the driver failed to stop the huge truck in time, and it knocked down the guardrails on the bridge.
2. The driver and passenger were able to get out of the cabin, and then called the emergency service. The road was blocked for several hours while the rescuers got the truck from the edge of the bridge.
3. But even after the truck was taken out, the bridge was blocked for several more hours while the safety railings were being repaired. “Another couple of centimeters, and this whole colossus would have collapsed down. But everything worked out, ”one of the policemen commented on the situation.
4. Although the driver and passenger were very frightened, they were still more fortunate than the driver from Gansu province last fall: his truck turned over and landed right on the railing of the bridge. The driver was upside down over a precipice of 9 meters.
5. His right leg got stuck between the truck and the bridge, and only this saved him from certain death.
6. It took firefighters three hours and a lot of effort to save the driver, who could not get out from under the truck dangerously hanging over the abyss.
