A Canadian donated a liver to a strange girl, and then married her
Chris Dempsey met his wife Heather Kruger less than two years ago. When they first started talking, the girl had stage 4 liver disease and by that time she had been ill for two years. Doctors told her that the chances of survival were 50-50 if she didn't get a liver transplant in the next two months.
Heather's family tried their best to save her life, but finding a donor is not an easy task, since there were already 119 thousand people in the transplant queue.

Chris passed the necessary tests and found out that he could be a donor for Heather, whom he had not even seen.
The couple first met in February 2015, after which they went on a couple of dates.
By the time it was time to do the transplant, the young people spent a lot of time together. Chris recalls that he was sure of a positive result.
"Yes, of course I was nervous — because something could go wrong. But by that time I wasn't even going to change my mind."
Chris proposed to Heather 8 months after the surgery. And a year and a half after the transplant, the couple got married.
"It was a very emotional and touching moment, especially for her and her parents, to realize everything we had to go through. And I could not even think that I would marry this beautiful woman when I decided to save her and agreed to a liver transplant."
