15 Unique Photos of Stars by Andy Warhol
Few people know that such a cult figure in the history of the pop art movement and modern art in general as Andy Warhol was not only an artist, producer, designer, writer, collector, magazine publisher and film director, but also a very talented photographer.
Andy Warhol is an iconic figure in the history of modern art and the pop art movement. Although Andy never called himself a photographer, in 1980 he made a rather surprising statement:
1. In the photo: Lou Reed and Ronnie Cutrone.Warhol became interested in photography as an art form towards the end of his career and life. He never parted with his camera for the last 10 years of his life, but we know very little about Warhol the photographer.
2. In the photo: John Benitez and Madonna.Andy Warhol gave most of his photo archive to his secretary, Pat Hackett. A collection of 150 of the artist's images went under the hammer at auction in September 2013. The phototype prints were made from 35mm negatives taken between 1976 and 1987.
3. Debbie Harry.Warhol managed to take many interesting and unusual pictures towards the end of his life, in particular portraits of his star colleagues. Many of his friends from the world of show business often went to the same night clubs or came to his studio.
4. Young Sting.Liza Minnelli, John Lennon, Rudolf Nureyev, Ted Kennedy, Sylvester Stallone, Man Ray, Joanna Collins – Warhol photographed Hollywood royalty, New York bohemians and the inhabitants of the dens. He did not seek to show people belonging to a certain social class.
