10 Movies Where Good Characters Were Actually Selfish
Given the insane amount of fans that iconic characters like the Joker have, it's no surprise that viewers adore characters that look likable, but they really don't. As in real life, people in movies and TV shows often try to pretend to be someone they are not, hiding their flaws in charm and sense of humor. Even among the characters we really love, there are many people whose bad behavior we ignore.
We tried to find out which movie characters were able to deceive the audience and win their hearts.

1. Kate Austin, Staying Alive.
It's very easy to feel empathy for this character in the beginning, but as time goes on, it gets harder and harder. She always acts like she's better than everyone else. Austin is a selfish and arrogant person who is not ready to take responsibility for his actions. Also, she couldn't choose between Jack and Sawyer (and her choice often depended on who was most advantageous to her at the moment).
2. Albus Dumbledore, the Harry Potter films.
In the beginning, Dumbledore seemed to be a great wizard, strategist, and good mentor. But he is still a controversial character. Over time, you realize that Harry was just his pawn. For example, Dumbledore clearly realized that Harry had to destroy the Horcrux inside him. And Dumbledore was willing to do anything to reach that goal.
3. Ellie Hamilton, Diary of Memory.
The relationship between the main characters is actually quite toxic, mainly due to Ellie's behavior. She had a terrible personality. She often acted childishly. In addition, Ellie cheated on her husband with a boyfriend she hadn't seen in years. If you think about all these things, it's hard for you to sympathize with Ellie Hamilton.
4. Sheldon Cooper, The Big Bang Theory.
Sheldon has a lot of fans, and of course, the show wouldn't be as interesting if Sheldon wasn't around. But in real life, very few people would like to have a friend like Cooper - selfish and rude. He often made Amy cry and did bad things to his friends without even realizing it.
5. Robin Scherbatsky, How I Met Your Mother.
Robin didn't plan to get married or have children, but she knew it was Ted's dream. Yet she agreed to date him, even though their relationship isn't going anywhere. Finally, Robin had a relationship with Barney, a friend of Ted's, which was very painful for Ted.
6. Jerry, Tom, and Jerry.
When we are children, we think that the mouse is smart and funny. But as we grow up, we realize that he made cat life unbearable for no good reason. Typical episode: Tom lives a happy life with his owner, and then Jerry shows up in the kitchen and steals food. The owner tells Tom that he will kick him out if he doesn't catch Jerry and Tom is always in trouble because of him. So which one is the real bad guy?
7. Jack Shepard, Staying alive.
At first glance, Jack seems to be the most positive character in the series, but he has some flaws. He constantly puts himself in danger to look fearless and feel like a hero. And he was the only doctor on the island. It's in vain, don't you think? Also, he always wanted to be the leader and control everything, even things he couldn't control.
8. JD, Clinic.
Although JD. it's the heart of the show and he's a fun and charming character, he's a flawed person. He goes crazy every time he fails to reach his goal. And how many times he did something reckless without thinking about others. Do you remember how he kissed Carla, his best friend's girlfriend?
9. Rose, Titanic.
This is another cult drama in which the amazing love story of the main characters made the audience turn a blind eye to their morally gray deeds. Don't forget that in the beginning, Rose was very arrogant because she thought she was better than the others. In addition, she cheated on her fiancé, and when the Titanic sank, and she and Jack were in the water, she did not even offer Jack to climb on the wreck (and there is an experiment proving that 2 people could easily swim on it).
10. Barney Stinson, How I Met Your Mother.
Barney is arguably the most interesting character on the show, obviously thanks to the charismatic and charming Neil Patrick Harris. But it's hard to deny the fact that he was a liar and a selfish person. Most of the time, Barney thought only of himself. He also cheated on Nora, although he could break up with her before his date with Robin.
