Then 32 modern bands performed on stage in front of a crowd of thousands at once, who performed their hits for all the hippies of America for four days.
Woodstock is known as the greatest musical event of all time and perhaps one of the most important turning points in the history of music. Two days before the start of the festival, about 60,000 people have already arrived at the venue. On the day of the festival, the roads were so clogged that some artists had to use a plane to get to their own performances.
The atmosphere of utter freedom reigned all days on the Woodstock territory. There were no prohibitions, rules and restrictions - each person was a part of a huge living organism. There are legends about this event, most of which seem to be a fairy tale. However, many sources speak of the event as a place mired in drugs and debauchery.
Despite all the stories, facts, rumors and speculation, Woodstock can be called absolutely beautiful at least for the beautiful half of the audience — all the women who believed in peace, freedom and love.
The Woodstock Music & Art Fair festival debuted not in Woodstock at all, but in Bethel — a small village 40 km from Woodstock, on the grounds of dairy farmer Max Yasgur. Yasgur received $75,000 for his trampled and littered fields by the public.
During the festival, nine premature births occurred. One woman gave birth to her daughter right in the car in a 10-kilometer traffic jam at the entrance to the festival.
The company "Food for Love", which provided the public with food, at some point raised the prices of hamburgers from 25 cents to $ 1. The public saw this as a grimace of capitalism and burned the catering point to the ground. The Jewish Community Center, having learned about the shortage of food, handed over 200 loaves of bread, 20 kg of meat and 9 liter cans of pickled cucumbers to those in need.
Most of the stories about utter debauchery and orgies are actually just rumors. Yes, there were many cases of fairly open displays of feelings, but there were no mass orgies.
