Venice's legendary canals are drying up due to abnormal weather
By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/en/article/venices-legendary-canals-are-drying-up-due-to-abnormal-weatherThe legendary water channels of the most beautiful city of Venice are running out of water, and gondoliers are forced to moor boats literally on dirty ground. The reasons for the anomaly in the Italian city are unusually cold weather for the region, constant low tides, including those associated with the "blue bloody supermoon", and low rainfall. All this has led to the fact that the water level in the historical canals has fallen to 60 centimeters in some places.
In photos taken this week, the Queen of the Adriatic barely looks like herself.
In fact, a strange phenomenon has been hitting Venice for the third year in a row. Two years ago, it was reported that the water level was 72 centimeters below normal, significantly reducing the waterway for gondolas and water taxis.
Nevertheless, there are several floods in the city per year.
Tourism in one of the most popular cities in the world continues to grow, while the local population, on the contrary, is declining. Mainly because of the high prices caused by the tourist boom, the erosion of apartment buildings, the complexity of maintenance of the historical part, where there are no roads or cars.
