The American HBO channel will shoot a mini-series about Chernobyl

HBO will start filming a series about the Chernobyl disaster in 2018. The main role was given to Jared Harris, who played Professor Moriarty in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. The actor will play the role of scientist Valery Legasov, who was instructed by the Soviet government to find out the cause of the accident at the nuclear power plant.

There will be five episodes in the mini-series, the script for them was written by Craig Mazin, the author of Snow White and the Huntsman 2. It will be shot by Swedish musician, music video maker and film director Johan Renk, who worked on several episodes of the TV series "Breaking Bad", "The Walking Dead" and "Vikings".

The series will tell about how and why the disaster happened and how scientists struggled with its consequences.

Filming of the series will begin in spring 2018 in Lithuania.

Jared Harris is a 55—year-old British actor, best known for the roles of Lane Price in the TV series "Mad Men" and Dr. David Jones in the TV series "Fringe". Among his other works are "Agents of A.N.K.L.", "Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse" and "The Mysterious Story of Benjamin Button".

The mini-series will be the first experience of cooperation between HBO and Sky Television. HBO has filmed the series "Game of Thrones", "Sex and the City", "The Sopranos", "True Detective", "Young Dad" and "Wild West World".
