Photographer Gustavo Gomez captured his girlfriend Priscilla during a home birth.
The contractions began late on Sunday evening, and the couple had to wait until Monday until the doctor confirmed the fact of the beginning of labor.
After several hours of labor, an obstetrician and a pediatrician finally arrived in the early morning to help Priscilla get rid of the burden.
Priscilla took a warm shower to relax while an obstetrician drove to the couple.
Gustavo Gomez described the 20-hour experience of giving birth to his beloved as "intense," adding that he cried when his daughter was finally born.
During the contractions, Priscilla was helped by doula, and immediately before the birth of the child, a midwife and a pediatrician came home to the photographer and his girlfriend.
Gomez noted that he tried to get Priscilla to pose, but eventually gave up, saying that the photos in the reportage style would turn out better.
The photographer admitted that the idea of a photoshoot was prompted by the high percentage of caesarean sections in his country: "We hope that these photos will help people realize the beauty of childbirth at home. 50% of births in Brazil are by caesarean section! This is the highest rate in the world. And this is without any medical indications. It's just that this process takes doctors much less time, so they are willing to do a caesarean section."
When Gustavo saw his daughter, he burst into tears and swore that he would photograph her all his life.
Gustavo Gomez photographed his beloved with his newborn daughter.
Gomez also used his camera to document Priscilla's pregnancy, which he said came as a pleasant surprise.
Gomez noted that he had been photographing his life with Priscilla for some time, so the decision to capture the birth was not difficult.
The pictures of the exhausted girl that Gomez posted on his website two months after giving birth turned out to be very realistic and caused controversy among fans — some thought that the photos came out original and beautiful in their own way, while others were outraged by the strange shooting plot.
