The experimental area was called Jumpology. Halsman suggested that every celebrity could abandon pretense and its public role, if at the time of shooting Philip persuaded them to jump up. Book Halsman Jump Book was not published for decades, before this gem photos not revived thanks to the publisher Damiani.
For six years a popular new York-based photographer whose photographs often graced the cover of LIFE magazine, at the end of each portrait photography asked their models as possible to jump. Philip photographed the moment of the jump using the flash.

Jump usually was quirky and funny, but at the same time perfectly consistent with the purposes of the artist. When a man jumped, the whole "armor", which he had worn during the day, immediately fell down. Halsman has introduced a jump in the process of filming the moment when he lost the ability to do it. The photographer's got a crack of the Ilium, and the shooting allows him again for a moment to return to childhood.

During the first jump, the people seemed alive. For example, Marilyn Monroe for the first time jumped as if she was a little girl. When she was asked to repeat the jump, she got embarrassed again and began to behave more cautiously.

Of course, there were those who thought themselves above such experiments or for certain reasons, refused to participate. "Every failure was heartbreaking, confessed photographer — but all these "no's" had a lot of "Yes"". For example, the French writer Romain Gary after the first jump begged Halsman to repeat the experiment, "Please, can I jump again? I think I was not emotional!"
