The two deepest floors of this recreation center, which cost 225 million pounds (19.3 billion rubles), are under water. An ambitious project at the completion stage, after ten years of construction. The 18-storey building at the foot of Tianmashan Mountain in Songjiang district was built in a quarry with a depth of 88 meters. This huge quarry, the size of five football fields, is located 35 kilometers from the southwestern outskirts of Shanghai.

A representative of the InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland Hotel administration noted that guests will be able to book a room from the opening date. The price for renting a room in a unique hotel starts from 3325 yuan (approximately 32 thousand rubles) per night.

The original building is located on the edge of a rocky quarry, nearby a channel has been cut into the rock for a waterfall, which will drain from the highest point of the quarry right in the center of the building.

There are two floors of the hotel on the surface of the earth, while the main part of the building occupies the space inside the quarry, and two floors are located under water altogether.

The hotel will fit perfectly into the natural landscape. The two deepest floors of the hotel are immersed in an artificial pond. This is the pride of Shanghai Shimao Group.

In the underwater part there are several luxury guest rooms, a restaurant and an aquarium with a depth of 10 meters. Guests of the presidential suite will be able to watch the fish through a 15-meter-wide glass. All corridors and rooms of the underwater floors will be directed to a naturally illuminated atrium, from where you will have a view of the rocks with their green vegetation and waterfalls.

The hotel will have all the necessary infrastructure for recreation and business meetings, including a conference hall for 1000 people. Customers will be able to visit the spa resort, experience the thrill of going bungee jumping.

Also, sports complexes, a center for extreme sports, such as rock climbing and jumping with an elastic rope at different points of the quarry will be equipped underground.

The quarry that served as the basis for the hotel was excavated in the 1950s. In 2000, it was abandoned, after which the mining site remained a kind of "wound" on the local landscape.

The idea of building a hotel belongs to a businessman from Shanghai Shimao Group Xu Rongmao (Xu Rongmao). In 2006, he discovered an abandoned object during a helicopter ride. He had the idea to use the mine workings, building probably the most unusual hotel complex here.

Several innovative solutions have been implemented in the hotel project. It has already been called one of the most environmentally friendly hotels in China. The latest technologies will allow the use of solar and geothermal energy.

Since the building is actually upside down, and there is a reservoir at the bottom, this made it possible to create a ventilation system with water cooling of the air. On the other hand, the mass of the rock serves as an excellent thermal insulator.
