Once upon a time, buxom, round-faced matrons and skinny female boys were also popular. And then the 90-60-90 standard appeared, from which the whole world is now strenuously, but so far unsuccessfully trying to move away. How did it appear and why do couturiers not want to give it up?
In ancient times and in In the Middle Ages, fat women were held in high esteem. It was believed that obesity is a sign of prosperity, health and fertility. Things are a little different these days. A fit athletic figure speaks about a good standard of living and health. Her mistress can afford to eat right and pay for a subscription to a fitness club.
But the fashion world lives by its own rules. No one here cares about men's preferences and women's desires. In fact, the strict 90-60-90 standard is just a myth. Very few girls from the catwalk fit into these centimeters. But the fashion industry needs skinny models and there are a number of reasons for this.
Firstly, a person always looks fuller on the screen than he really is. From this point of view, skinny girls are very profitable, as they look spectacular. Secondly, it is easier to sew on thin than on shapely ladies. And if the models are also about the same size, then the task is even more simplified. Any one can be replaced without changing anything.
The third reason can be called ticklish. The fact is that when the 90-60-90 standard was formed, that is, in the late 80s and early 90s, there were a lot of gay people in the fashion world. Non-traditional orientation was a real trend, and fashion designers wanted to see awkward young men in girls. Everything feminine caused them to neglect. The great couturier Jean-Paul Gaultier once said:
Although now plus-size models are breaking into the fashion industry, it is not necessary to say that there has been a turning point and thin models have remained in the past.
