Why do people become mermaids in Israel?

Every girl and, alas, some boys, in childhood dreamed of becoming princesses, fairies or mermaids. Over time, faced with the harsh prose of life, almost everyone changed their life priorities and turned into housewives, middle managers and MPs. But, fortunately for this lost planet, not everyone grows up in the soul and there are individuals who managed to realize their childhood dreams.

34-year-old Israeli Shir Katsenell, who set herself the goal of becoming a mermaid as a child, has achieved considerable success in this matter. In addition, the woman organized a fan club and helps other fellow citizens also to get closer to the dream of their lives.

As a child, Shire was impressed by the Disney cartoon "The Little Mermaid", after which the girl dreamed that one day she would be able to swim underwater as well as a fairy-tale heroine and make friends with marine life. Her peers grew up, acquired new hobbies and hobbies, and Katsenell still dreamed of sea beauties and strong fish tails instead of legs.

A year ago, Shir decided that there was no point in postponing reincarnation anymore and, having abandoned a promising military career, finally became a mermaid. Together with their friend Michelle Korecki, they organized the first mermaid fan club in Israel and united people with the same dream as them all over the country under its banner. It turned out that there are quite a few people who dream of a tail instead of legs, and in everyday life they are busy with a variety of things — from programming to politics.

Like it or not, there are also men among the mermaids. One of them, Yuval Avrami, is not shy about his hobby and boldly photographed in an unusual way for a classic brutal bearded man. He claims that it was only after trying on the mermaid tail that he finally realized what he was missing in life and is happy that "the dream has become a reality."

Shir Katzenell herself makes costumes with fish tails of different shapes and colors, and also teaches everyone who wants to move in them underwater. The company of mermaid people periodically appears in large pools throughout the country, invariably causing delight among others.

It is very important that the fan club acts not just as an association of people with a slightly unusual hobby, but as a community with a clear environmental orientation. During their demonstrations, which gather a lot of spectators, Israeli mermaids attract public attention to the environmental problems of the oceans.

Most recently, the largest gathering of mermaids in Israel, and most likely in the world, took place in one of the pools of Tel Aviv. The variety of bright costumes made my head spin, and uninitiated guests listened with surprise to the discussions of silicone tails and swimming styles.
