Why Americans don't use electric kettles

By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/why-americans-dont-use-electric-kettles.htmlWe have electric kettles in almost every kitchen. We use this household appliance not only at home, but also at work. It's hard to believe that Americans don't hold such teapots in high esteem. Moreover, they are a real rarity in the USA. What is the reason for such indifference to a convenient and simple water heater?
The main reason for the absence of the "cult of the electric kettle" in the USA is the high cost of electricity. It is well known that these devices have a large capacity of 1.5-2 kilowatts. The standard voltage in the network for us and European countries is 220 volts. But in the US, household networks can only offer 110 volts.
Weak voltage prevents the effective use of conventional kettles, and special ones are too expensive. It will take 3-4 times longer to boil water even with a kettle adapted for the USA. If the fate is that electricity is expensive in this country— it is completely unprofitable.
It is known that residents of the United States have very peculiar taste preferences. They prefer cold drinks, including tea. At the same time, they remain true to their preferences, even if there is a cracking frost on the street. That is why an electric kettle is a useless thing for the average American.
If you order hot coffee or tea in an American cafe, there is a chance that you will simply not be understood. You can still count on hot coffee, but with tea everything will be difficult. You may be refused or, at best, they will bring hot water in a cup separately from the tea bag so that you can make yourself a drink yourself.
But how do Americans heat water if they need boiling water? The most popular way to heat water in the USA is in a microwave oven. This household appliance is used wherever possible. Many people boil water in an "international" way, which is used all over the world — on the stove in a saucepan or in an ordinary kettle.
Coffee is brewed very rarely in America — it is trusted to prepare coffee machines. These devices are almost perfect overseas — they brew a fragrant drink quickly and with scanty electricity consumption. So if you are going overseas, then get ready to change your preferences regarding hot drinks.
