Respecting the anonymity of the heroes of the shooting, she captured the stages of death, including autopsy and cremation, in a calm and detailed manner. Artmann lifts the veil of secrecy surrounding these processes, which people do not care until it touches someone close to you, and demonstrates how emotional and filled with calm moments.

With the permission of the Institute of pathological anatomy of the hospital at Aarhus University, photographer got in the vault of the bodies, gained access to the table for dissection to the crematorium and chapel, which held the post-mortem rituals.
The author of the photo project compares the unknown that gets people when the light with the darkness of the path from the moment of death until the last good-byes.

These images show what happens after the human body ceases to be simply and objectively convey to the audience the whole process of bringing a semblance of alleviating anxiety caused by the modern perception of death. Hartmann explains that the fear of death affects all aspects of everyday life, including society's obsession with youth and beauty.

For Hartmann confrontation and eventual reconciliation with death allow you to realize the value of life. In the lens of the photographer the human being is concentrated in fragments: a hand, a skull, a strand of white hair turned into formal, but delicate incarnation of the modern ideas about their own mortality. Archetypal and invisible the image of death appears at the same time, and silent, and incredibly telling.

"It is much more difficult when it includes those who are too young to die. Those who do come should be many more experiences. Especially small children. Otherwise, I see it as the same natural phenomenon of birth. From him you cannot hide," says Michael Petersen, head of service in the chapel.
