Victoria. The only city in the Seychelles

By Pictolic https://pictolic.com/article/victoria-the-only-city-in-the-seychelles.htmlSergei Dolya says: “Victoria is the capital of the Seychelles and the only city in the state. There are, of course, small settlements on the islands, but these are rather what we call “urban-type settlements”. Due to the compact habitation, there are practically no streets here. In letters, it is customary to indicate only the area (it can be a separate island) and the name of the recipient. The center of Victoria is small, measuring one and a half kilometers by one and a half kilometers. I saw 3-4 new modern buildings here. You won’t find any incredible frills here, however, they don’t fly to the Seychelles for the beauty of the city.”

1. Against the backdrop of a modest, and in some places quite provincial surroundings, an artificial island looks like an incredible oasis. Expensive yachts and mansions and the main attraction of capitalist culture is the shopping center.
2. At the intersection with Independence Avenue is the main and, it seems, the only attraction of the city - the Clock Tower.
It is customary to call it mini Big Ben and consider it a copy, although this is not so. The clock tower is an exact copy of the tower installed in 1892 in London's Westminster on Vauxhall Bridge Road.
3. The island has the only cinema with its own features. First, they show the same movie all week. Secondly, in the European manner, the sessions are interrupted by a half-hour smoke break. I saw this for the first time in Amsterdam: I went to the cinema, watched it to the middle, and - rise! - the lights are on, the audience comes out. At first I was confused even: how so? and the end? Then I realized that it was "intermission".
4. A typical street looks like this.
5. Although “typical” is a strong word. There are only two and a half of them.
6. Suddenly, such a colorful house grew out of the ground.
7. Rue du Bazar - Seychelles Arbat. Suspicious elements roam along the pedestrian street.
8. The same street, view from the other side.
9. Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. In the foreground is a thin girl, which is very atypical for Seychelles.
10. Hindu temple, beautiful.
11. The Pirates Arms is the most famous and promoted restaurant not only in Victoria, but in all the Seychelles. Open daily until late and offers draft beer (the locals are very proud of this).
12. Statue (OK, figurine) of Queen Victoria, after whom the city is named.
13. Street with an obviously Russian name. I do not remember the history of its occurrence - maybe someone knows?
14. What else is there in the city? There is a local history museum (permanently closed).
15. A pair of traffic lights throughout the country (regulators in other places).
16. Beau Vallon police station.
17. And the modern building of the headquarters of the Seychelles Airlines.
18. There is still mail.
19. Near the office there are boxes for letters, apparently, on demand.
20. And now let's take a walk around the Paradise Island shopping center. This is a through complex with shops.
21. "Cartier" and "Armani", let's just say, are not here.
22. Exit from the shopping center towards the marina with yachts.
23. Juicy bar.

26. According to our guide, this bar is run by Krasnodar residents.
If this is true, I would like to take this opportunity to say hello to my compatriots!
